Metro TV & Audiotech has been repairing televisions since 1947—back when TVs were massive wooden cabinets with vacuum tubes and black-and-white picture tubes. Today's televisions are flat-panel LED, OLED, and QLED displays with smart functionality, streaming capabilities, and 4K or 8K resolution. The technology has changed dramatically, but our commitment to factory-authorized service with genuine parts has not.
We provide drop-off repair service at our Lincoln location (1107 North Cotner Blvd). You bring your television to us, we diagnose the issue using manufacturer diagnostic tools and service documentation, and we complete the repair with genuine OEM parts. Most repairs are completed within 5-7 business days, depending on parts availability. For warranty repairs, we handle the claim process directly with your warranty provider. You drop off the TV, we coordinate with the warranty company, and you pick up a repaired television.
Television repair is different from appliance repair in one important way: televisions must be brought to our service center. Unlike appliances, which we service in your home, TVs require specialized diagnostic equipment, calibration tools, and a controlled environment for proper repair. Modern flat-panel displays contain delicate components that can be damaged during transport or by environmental factors like dust and humidity. Our service center is equipped with manufacturer-approved testing equipment, proper ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection, and the technical resources needed to diagnose and repair today's complex televisions.
Brands We Service
We are factory-authorized to repair televisions from all major manufacturers. Factory authorization means we have access to manufacturer diagnostic software, technical service bulletins, wiring diagrams, and genuine OEM replacement parts.
Common TV Problems We Repair
Television failures fall into several categories: power issues, display issues, audio issues, and smart functionality issues. Each category requires different diagnostic approaches and different replacement parts. Unlike some repair shops that replace entire circuit boards without diagnosing the root cause, we identify the specific failed component. This approach costs less and results in more reliable repairs.
Power issues are among the most common TV failures. The television will not turn on, or it turns on briefly and then shuts off. This is typically caused by a failed power supply board, a blown fuse, or failed capacitors on the main board. We test voltage at multiple points in the power circuit to isolate the failure. Power supply boards for Samsung, LG, and Sony televisions are model-specific and must be ordered from the manufacturer. See our manufacturer partnerships.
The TV turns on, but there is no picture. Or the picture is extremely dim. This is usually caused by failed LED backlights or a failed backlight inverter board. LED backlights have a finite lifespan—typically 50,000 to 100,000 hours. When they fail, the display goes dark even though the TV is receiving a signal. We test the backlights individually and replace failed LED strips. Backlight repairs require disassembling the display panel, which must be done in a controlled environment to avoid dust contamination. Learn about warranty coverage for backlight failures.
Vertical or horizontal lines on the screen, flickering, color distortion, or ghosting are typically caused by a failed T-Con board (timing control board) or a failing display panel. The T-Con board processes the video signal and sends it to the display panel. T-Con failures are repairable with OEM parts. Panel failures, however, are often not economically repairable—the cost of a replacement panel can exceed the cost of a new TV. We diagnose the issue and provide a cost estimate before proceeding with any repair.
The picture works, but there is no sound, or the sound is distorted. This can be caused by a failed main board, failed speakers, or incorrect audio settings. We test the audio output from the main board and test the speakers individually. Many modern TVs output audio through HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) or optical audio connections. If external audio is working but the internal speakers are not, the issue is typically the speakers themselves, not the main board.
Smart TV functionality not working, apps crashing, Wi-Fi not connecting, or the TV not responding to remote commands. These issues are often software-related and can sometimes be resolved with a firmware update or factory reset. If the issue is hardware-related (failed Wi-Fi module or failed main board), we replace the failed component with an OEM part. Smart TV issues are common on older models that are no longer receiving software updates from the manufacturer.
Our diagnostic approach: We do not replace parts based on guesswork. We test components, measure voltages, and identify the specific failure before ordering parts. This saves you money and results in a proper repair. Drop off your TV for diagnosis.
How TV Repair Works
The TV repair process is straightforward. You bring your television to our service center in Lincoln, we diagnose the issue, provide you with a repair estimate, and complete the repair once you approve the estimate. For warranty repairs, we coordinate with your warranty provider directly.
- Bring Your TV to Our Service Center Drop off your TV at our Lincoln location (1107 North Cotner Blvd). We recommend calling ahead at (402) 466-9090 to confirm we have availability. Bring any remotes, power cables, and warranty documentation if available.
- Diagnostic Assessment We perform a full diagnostic assessment using manufacturer diagnostic tools. We test the power supply, main board, T-Con board, backlights, and display panel. We identify the specific failed component.
- Repair Estimate Provided We contact you with a detailed repair estimate. The estimate includes the cost of parts and labor. If your TV is under warranty, we coordinate with your warranty provider to determine coverage. Learn how warranty repairs work.
- Parts Ordered (If Approved) Once you approve the estimate, we order the genuine OEM replacement part from the manufacturer or from an authorized distributor. Most parts arrive within 3-5 business days.
- Repair Completed and Tested We install the replacement part and test the TV to confirm proper operation. We test picture quality, audio, smart functionality, and all inputs. We do not return a TV to a customer unless it is fully functional.
- Pick Up Your Repaired TV We contact you when your TV is ready for pickup. We provide a 30-day warranty on all parts and labor (in addition to any manufacturer warranty on the replacement part).
Typical turnaround time: Most TV repairs are completed within 5-7 business days from the time parts arrive. Complex repairs or hard-to-source parts may take longer. We keep you informed throughout the process. Visit our service center.
Warranty vs. Out-of-Warranty Repairs
If your television is under warranty, you should always file a warranty claim before paying for a repair out of pocket. Many customers do not realize their TV is still covered. The manufacturer's warranty may still be active (typically one year from purchase), you may have purchased an extended warranty from the retailer, or your credit card may provide purchase protection.
If your TV is covered by a manufacturer's warranty or an extended warranty plan (Assurant, SquareTrade, etc.), we handle the claim on your behalf. You do not pay for parts or labor. The warranty provider pays us directly. We diagnose the issue, confirm it is covered under warranty, order the part, complete the repair, and notify you when your TV is ready. See which warranty companies we work with.
If your TV is not under warranty, we charge a $42.90 diagnostic fee. This fee is subtracted from the total repair cost if you approve the repair. If you decline the repair, the diagnostic fee covers our time and expertise in identifying the issue. TV repairs can range from $150 (simple board replacement) to $500+ (backlight replacement or complex repairs). We provide a detailed estimate before proceeding.
When is a TV not worth repairing? If the display panel itself is damaged (cracked screen, internal panel failure), the cost of a replacement panel typically exceeds the cost of a new TV. We will inform you if this is the case. Panel damage is not covered under most warranties unless it was a manufacturing defect present from the time of purchase. Physical damage, liquid damage, and damage from power surges are typically not covered by warranties.
Our recommendation: Before bringing in your TV, check if it is under warranty. Look for your purchase receipt, check your credit card benefits, or contact the retailer where you purchased it. Many extended warranties are forgotten. Learn more about the warranty process.
Why Factory-Authorized TV Repair Matters
Factory authorization means the manufacturer has certified us to repair their products and provided us with access to technical resources that are not available to independent repair shops. This includes diagnostic software, service bulletins, wiring diagrams, and access to genuine OEM parts.
Independent TV repair shops often source parts from third-party suppliers. These parts may be refurbished, aftermarket, or "compatible" replacements. They are less expensive than OEM parts, which allows independent shops to offer lower prices. However, non-OEM parts are not tested by the manufacturer, are not backed by a manufacturer warranty, and may fail prematurely. More importantly, using non-OEM parts voids your warranty. If your TV is under warranty and an unauthorized repair shop installs a non-OEM part, your warranty coverage is void—even for unrelated failures.
We source parts directly from Samsung, LG, Sony, and all other manufacturers we service. Every part we install is genuine OEM. This protects your warranty and ensures the repair lasts.
The bottom line: Factory-authorized repair protects your warranty, ensures genuine parts, and provides access to manufacturer technical support that independent shops do not have. See our factory authorizations.
